Pre-order this new book by my friend Chris Eliopoulos
Longtime readers will already know that I’m a big fan of Chris Eliopoulos. His webcomic, Misery Loves Sherman, was one of my favorites from way back. (I posted one of my favorites below.) Since those days, he’s gone on to illustrate a series of best-selling books written by Brad Meltzer — Ordinary People Change the World — among other great work (like Franklin Richards, Son of a Genius and Cow Boy)
NOW, he’s coming out with his own title — that he’s written and illustrated — called Cosmic Commandos. And it looks absolutely tremendous. It’s available for preorder right now. Here’s the write-up.
In this graphic novel adventure for readers of Hilo and Roller Girl, a pair of twin brothers accidentally bring their favorite video game to life—and now they have to find a way to work together to defeat it.
Jeremy and Justin are twins, but they couldn’t be any more different from each other. Jeremy is a risk taker who likes to get his hands dirty; Justin prefers to read, focus, and get all his facts straight before jumping in. But they do have one important thing in common: They both love video games. When Jeremy wins a cereal-box charm that brings his favorite video game to life, villains and all, he finds that he’s in way over his head. Justin knows everything there is to know about the rules of the game—he read the handbook, of course—and Jeremy isn’t afraid to try new things. Can these two mismatched brothers work together to beat the video game that has become their life?
I’m in. Are you in? I’m in. Preorder this baby right now.
The Complete Tales from the Con — and my first convention appearance of 2017
Four-and-a-half years ago, I began writing a weekly comic for the Emerald City Comicon website. As I mentioned on Webcomics.com, it was an idea that I wanted to put into action for a long time. And ECCC’s Jim Demonakos was giving me the opportunity to do so — in a big way. I started writing the weekly strips which were originally drawn by Chris Giarusso (and later Scoot McMahon) in December of 2011. Tales from the Con focused on the weird, funny, odd stuff that happens at comic conventions — with a healthy dollop of general comics-culture humor.
Many of the comics were collected into a comic book — and then a follow-up. And now, all of the comics are being collected into a book — The Complete Tales from the Con! The 112-page book will even include the comics that were created after the two comic books were published — as well as a bunch that never appeared on the Web! It’s available for pre-order now, and it is scheduled to be unveiled for the first time anywhere at the 15th annual Emerald City Comicon (March 2-5, 2017).
Which is why I’ll be flying to Seattle in March.
I’m super-excited to announce that I’ll be returning to Emerald City Comicon in 2017! It’s always been one of my favorite conventions, and now that I’ve cut back on my convention schedule, it may be the last time I make it out to the west coast for a looong time. Other than New Year’s Partycon (Dec. 31 – Jan. 1) in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Wizard World Philadelphia (June 1-4), I have zero plans to travel for conventions next year. So, if you’re in the Pacific Northwest and want to talk comics, by all means make plans to head out in March!
